First trip to Tokyo from Mexico: neighbourhoods, pace, and logistics

Content

A first trip to Tokyo from Mexico requires understanding the sheer scale of the metropolis and grouping activities by contiguous geographic areas to avoid unnecessary crosstown transit. A 14 to 15-hour jet lag makes it advisable to spend the first two days exploring daytime districts and temples such as Asakusa, Ueno, and Meiji Jingu, leaving evenings for Shinjuku and Shibuya. The Yamanote rail loop and subway system are exceptionally efficient and punctual. We recommend planning no more than two or three districts per day to fully absorb the urban atmosphere without fatigue.
